Faifai´s Statement
(on our new performance "Ringo")
by Rino Daidoji

The possibilities of performing arts are like an infinite space. Inside this space, one question grew bigger and bigger until it finally reached us: Where are we now? Why can´t we stop producing things? And why do we need to do this in TOKYO? What kind of people are living here? Where is the place I wanna be? Where is the place I wanna return to?

These are questions not just for ourselves, but also for those who come to see our works.
If we can find the answer to these questions, maybe the path we walked inside this space will become visible. Maybe we can also find the right way to move forward.

On our way, we had long and intense debates about the shape of our new production and how we should proceed with our rehearsals.

In the end, we reached a reckless conclusion:

No matter what idiot or hopeless person will come to see us, we will give them a show brighter and more powerful than the sun, a show whose impact will reach liveforms even 2000 years beyond our time!

Original quotes from the meeting:

"Until now we were just acting like we´re street and underground, but in the end it was always us who was right in the middle of Tokyo´s cultural sceeene.... (*tear*)

"If people like carpenters or bankers or prime ministers or dogs don´t come to see our show it´s over anyway..."

"We can eat sleep and drink in this town even though we´re totally broke! I mean, like, mysterious ain´t it?"

"In highschool everybody used to call me the gorilla dude."

There was one thing we came to understand during this neverending and absurd meeting. Something we would like to share with everyone of you.

That´s why we packed our anger towards Tokyo, and our nostalgia towards the future into a furious "battle rhyme":

Imagine...
...a world, where a BIG rock is hanging over your head. It looks like it is stable, but you never know when it will come falling down.

Imagine....
...a world, where Tetsuya Komuro allowed 16000 ppl to "be together" in FREE DOMMUNE to collect money for Fukushima, but only got a lousy 2600000 yen.

Imagine such a world. Now, if you think "Oh my god! That world is totally fucking disgusting."

Then let me tell you: This is TOKYO as we know it.

If you have enough time to go to theatre, go get a fucking AIDS test! Is what I´m saying.

When I look down on the Scramble Crossing from Shibuya Station during nighttime on weekends, I can feel how everybody's brain is mashed together into one giant cloud of thoughts and feelings, and everybody is thinking the exact same thing. That makes them feel so good that they can never stop walking.

But what if you could? Don't you wanna try and see what happens?

Imagine....

a Tokyo without people,

an empty Shinjuku Station,

a Kaminari Gate with no one around,

Nobody in Harajuku´s Laforet,

only at the empty Shibuya Scramble Crossing, two traffic lights are speaking to each other with their blinking lights:

"I love you."

"I love you too."

In a Tokyo like that - just once - I wanna have a date with a boy I like.

I wanna hang our caps on top of the Sky Tree.
I wanna take a bath in Tokyo Bay.
I wanna get fucked in the Emperor´s Courtyard.
Could somebody who immediately thinks "Hold on a sec, are you nuts?" when he hears the fantasies of such a small Japanese girl ever understand the feelings of people somewhere else who get raped every day?

God is dead.
Jobs is dead.

Hawking said there is no heaven.
The teacher I trusted fucked my mom.
Are the memorial museum of Hiroshima and the mothers from Fukushima the only things that are allowed to shake our souls?

Can we only face the truth after we have seen hell?

I wanna believe again.
I wanna love this place again.
Because

HERE is my home town forever.

Today, on August 15, the memorial day of the end of World War 2, I imagine our world in 2000 years, after World War 3 - when no human is left, and only mice are left talking:

"During that period, human society and thought had reached their zenith, but now they´re all gone, that´s the story."

- But frankly, in the ocean it´s the most normal thing in the world that no human is around.

And hep, and hep, and hep!
(The two mice, carrying something)

"If you really wish for world peace, you can´t just try to save your own children. That way of thinking must be abandoned."

- Ah, and because nobody could do so, they all disappeared! You do know a lot about history!

"History is interesting! You know, if everyone would just learn from history a little bit, nothing would go wrong. I guess they were just idiots."

- But sometimes you just forget about right and wrong, don´t you? Creatures on this planet are more simple than you think, sometimes they just fall in love and stuff?

"You know, the difference between boys and girls is already completely defined only three days after you´re born, it just happens on DNA level, there´s nothing you can do about it, it´d be like trying to dive and breathe underwater."

- Wow really?! But there´s also days when I think "I love you" and my heart pounds and I can´t get anything done anymore?! *CHUU!*

"What?! What do you mean?!" *CHUU!*

- I love you! *CHUU!*

"Wooooow.......I love you too....." *CHUU!*

(Passionately kissing mice disappear. *CHUU* is the sound mice make in Japanese, but also a onomatopoetic term for kissing, TN.)

(The mice carry a 2000 year old MacBook Air, drop it on the ground and disappear into a hole. The old MacBook starts iTunes, a voice begins to speak.)

Dear earth citizens in heaven. How are you doing?
2000years ago, On September 2012,
We faifai held our performance "Ringo" and turned ourselves into complete IDIOTS with all our soul.
In the end, many people from Tokyo, Yokohama and the rest of the world  came to our performance...
...like, Presidents and VIPs from all over the world, famous rappers, last exemplars of rare animal species, martians and old ladies from the neighbourhood.
Our work dealt with big questions concerning all mankind, and everyone cried and laughed like crazy!

We were called "culture", we were the muses who brought light to this world.
In the end we cried and laughed in joy and sadness.
Why? Because in 2012, that was the most beautiful way of saying "thank you" to life and death and the whole universe.
Did anything change about that in the future?
If this message reaches anyone, please let us know how you feel joy and sadness and how to say "thank you" to everything in the future.
We pray that this message reaches any lifeform that may exist then.

End of message.
